Convert to AVIF and Optimise
Speed up your WordPress site by converting your media library to AVIF. This plugin updates every reference to your images so your posts, pages, featured images, page builders and theme settings all use the optimised files. You keep the originals for full control.
What you get
Automatic AVIF on upload
New JPEG, PNG and WebP uploads convert to AVIF with your chosen quality level.
Bulk optimisation for existing media
Run one pass across posts, pages, excerpts, post meta and the options table. The tool rewrites stored URLs to the AVIF versions so your whole site stays in sync.
Quality you set
Pick a target from 10 to 100. The default 82 gives a strong balance of size and fidelity.
Keep originals and strip metadata
Retain the source file beside the AVIF copy. Remove metadata to reduce file size further.
UK friendly interface
All settings use British English.
Why AVIF
AVIF delivers smaller files at comparable visual quality to JPEG and WebP. Smaller images reduce bandwidth and load faster. Faster pages improve user experience and search performance.
How it works
The plugin listens for uploads and creates an AVIF version using your settings. It stores the AVIF file next to the original and updates WordPress to reference the new path. The bulk optimiser scans content and configuration where image URLs live and replaces them with the AVIF paths. This includes common page builders, featured images and theme customiser fields.
Setup
- Install and activate the plugin in WordPress.
- Open Settings → Convert to AVIF & Optimise and set your quality and metadata choices.
- Open the Bulk optimisation tab and run it to convert your existing library.
You can revert any single image by reselecting the original file in the editor or swapping the URL back.
Answers to common questions
Will my original files be preserved?
Yes. The plugin never deletes your uploads. It uses the AVIF copy for output while keeping the source file in place.
Does it cover page builders and theme settings?
Yes. The bulk optimiser checks post content, excerpts, post meta and the options table to catch stored URLs from builders and the customiser.
How does quality work?
You choose a value between 10 and 100. Higher numbers increase fidelity and file size. The default 82 is a sensible starting point.
